Trellising (Orchards)
Widely cultivated fruits such as apples, pears and pomegranates need to be nurtured and cared for whilst they are growing, and we at Gripple understand this. Fruit trees produce heavy loads and often require huge trellis structures that necessitate large wire diameters, and in turn a stronger, tougher and more robust system to sustain them.
The Gripple Jumbo was developed primarily for orchards, offering a 600kg working load made possible by the hardened ceramic roller that vigorously clenches the trellis wire, all without sacrificing any of our trademark ease-of-use. In addition, the GP Large can be utilised – it too boasts a similarly high working load, and like all our Gripples can be tightened with The Torq Tensioning Tool. Furthermore, the 6mm Gripple Lockable provides excellent anchoring in all orchard terrains, and the Fenox Anchor is particularly useful for rockier ground.
The intensive agriculture increasingly favoured by orchard-owners is achieved by planting trees with smaller roots; trees that must have the support only a trellis system can provide. Preferred for their faster maturity, these trees reach full fruit-bearing capacity much earlier. And with a Gripple-secured trellis they can be planted a mere 1 metre apart, creating a higher density of plants to increase the yield for the available space, thus generating a higher production rate overall.
Orchard trellising can also be used to form the basis of Protection Systems that shield susceptible fruits such as cherries from the rain to stop them bursting, or defend against destructive hailstorms that can obliterate entire crops. One thing is certain - whether it be protection from the environment or support for your trees, our system will enable you to enjoy the fruits of your labour for years to come.
